In a highly anticipated exhibition game between Spain and France, the Spaniards looked like the better team.
Team France scored the first basket of the game but went down crashing after that. Spain made a 10-0 run to open and eight point lead and closed the first quarter with 24-13 lead.
In the second quarter, things get ugly for France.
Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol took from where he left off in the opening quarter and dominated on the inside as Spain stretch their lead 45-21 at halftime.
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker tried to fire things up for Team France in the third period, but he didn’t get a lot of help.
Spain’s Marc Gasol and Navarro played beautiful basketball as the Spaniards took a 56-30 lead. To make matters worse, Blazers’ forward Nicolas Batum had to go to the locker room because of an apparent injury.
France faced a 60-38 deficit entering the final period and never threatened, as Spain took an easy 77-53 victory over the French national team.
Parker led France with 15 points, Turiaf had 10 and Gelable added 9 points. Spurs draftee Nando De Colo struggled throughout the game scoring just two points. Batum went scoreless.
Spain got 19 points from Pau Gasol, Serge Ibaka and Navarro had 9 points a piece and Marc Gasol scored seven.
Spain is currently ranked No. 2 in the world by FIBA, while France is No. 14.
Ouucchhhh… definitely not the outcome I expected from Team France. Parker can’t do it alone. 😦
The good thing about this is game is it doesn’t count. I think France learned from this game and find out that they need to get a lot better if they want to secure a spot at the London Olympics.
Team France has their work cutout for them. I expected a closer game not a blowout!
France has to get better for the Eurobasket! Losing by 24 points against Spain? C’mon! This team is deep in talent. Get it right!
