Kawhi Leonard and DeJuan Blair had six points each to help the San Antonio Spurs take a five-point lead 24-19, over the Memphis Grizzlies after the first quarter.
The Spurs then scored the first six points of the second quarter en route to a 9-2 spurt and capitalized on a 21-8 surge in the middle of the first half to take a double digit lead 45-35 at halftime.
Without their leading scorer Zach Randolph, Memphis has had little inside presence against the Spurs and looked like a different team from the one that eliminated the Spurs last season.
During the second half, San Antonio never let up.
Some of the keys to this victory was the Spurs’ controlling the boards, sharing the ball better and their defense on Memphis’ Rudy Gay.
The Spurs simply out-rebounded and out-dished the Grizzlies.
San Antonio had a 46-37 edge on the board and 23-10 on assists including a game-high 12 dimes from Tony Parker.
Gay was limited to just 1-point in 35 minutes of action going 0-of-7 from the field.
Matt Bonner scored 15 points, going 5-of-9 from behind the arc, and Tim Duncan added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks as the Spurs sent the Grizzlies their fourth straight loss with a 83-73 victory on Monday night.
With the win, the Spurs improved their record to 13-9 which is currently 2nd in Southwest division and 6th in the West.
Leonard had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs for his second double-double of the season, Richard Jefferson scored 13 points, Danny Green finished with 11 points, while Blair chipped in nine points.
O.J. Mayo led Memphis with 17 points, Mike Conley had 15 points and Mareese Speights scored 10 points, all in the first quarter.
The Spurs shot 40 percent from the floor, but made 41.7 percent of their attempts from the 3-point area while holding the Grizzlies to just 37 percent field goal shooting.
The Spurs scored just 13 points in the entire fourth quarter but the 22-point lead they built in the third period proved to be to much for the Grizzlies.
San Antonio will start a 3-game home stand against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night at the AT&T Center.
Great road win by the Spurs lets Go Spurs!
Good team effort, but the Spurs should avoid those offensive droughts 13 points in the fourth quarter? That is unacceptable good thing they built a big cushion enough for them to win the game. This team has a lot to improve, I hope they’d get there.
Just the third win on the road, not really impressive but they can use this win to get them going. The upcoming three game home stand will be crucial for them.

As a diehard Spurs’ fan my mantra for the team is just win baby , just win !
tophatal ……………..
I got used to expecting anything and everthing years ago since DRobinson retired. A win is a win. Great team effort against the Grizz now bring on Houston my only worries are still at PG’s if our guys can hold wi’ll win. Here our weaks for lack of a Big won’t be exposed but at PG’s it will show more then ever.
I’m really happy to hear almost every post from you guys and it makes blogging/writing more fun… Sorry if don’t have the time to answer all your inquiries.
A little bit off topic but most of you might already know that the Spurs did NOT use the option on James Anderson meaning he will be an unrestricted free agent by the end of the season. Should he play well and the Spurs chose to resign him, they can only offer Anderson roughly around 1.56M max.
Daniel, I understand what your saying but hey we got the win! Hopefully the Spurs gets more consistency from everyone and win as much games a possible while Manu recovers.
Tophatal, I like your team mantra for the Spurs. I suppose everyone will agree with that!
Joe, very good point about Houston, we always have problems with their backcourt of Lowry and Martin but I like what I see in Neal and Green. Also Parker needs to get out of his shooting slump.
Thanks for the comments and reads guys! Without your support Spurs World wouldn’t be as successful as it is now.

If they don’t agree with that premise then they’re definitely not ardent Spurs’ fans ! I’m just glad you’re on board with the statement !
No truth to the rumor that with Kim Kardashian having set her sights on Jeremy Lin , if he turns her down then she’ll come creeping after TP ? My advice to TP ….. …… just hit it and quit it “ !
tophatal ………..
I’ll take this win anytime of the day… If the Spurs can continue playing better on defense and control the boards more they’d be fine.
Robby;
I guess I feel like I’am looking outside, in through the Spurs window as a fan with a lot of questions that make no sense such as do we tank the season? I have not seen that much NCAAB, so the next question is who’s out there for us if we go lotto? Where would we end up on the lotto picks? Is it okay to tank because some other teams will do it in a heart beat? Pride is not an option here we have to do what we gots to do (Tank) if thats whats best for everyone. Would D. Howard be an Option? Think about it (C=DHoward, PF=Tim, F=Tiago, SF=Manu, PG=Tony)? What about using Tony for a big trade(Value 2-3 players or two 1st round picks? What about RJ amnesty? What about Tony amnesty? Do we bring in the next available players for overseas now? Are they ready? What does this all mean? Your next POST should be call VISION QUEST where we your Robbloggers sit together and drink some Peyote and go on this trip to Spurs World 2012 infinite (futurerama type) where we all explore the never ending possiblities, of course you must be 18 yrs or older. With your permission its open to anyone, everyone, trolls, including a family package with no Peyote involved there. What a trip it that would be. As your bloggers we must be thinking where are we headed and want to go as a team on short range and long range goals, lets play the FO in this vision. One Post just one should be dedicated as to what each and everyone of us think we need and want. Food for thought (not anymore), soul searching (not there yet), but VISION QUEST at it best with the Robbloggers all of us sitting down together just drinking and having fun on this weekend trip, of course we all have to come back but some us won’t want to. I say it’s all about maybe folding and then getting gritty. It would be a fun trip and No I’m not drinking Peyote right now but getting ready to call it a night. I hope all this makes sense, Good night guys.
