Spurs trading Parker?

As reported by Yahoo! Sports, the San Antonio Spurs are engaged in discussions about trading point guard Tony Parker to secure a high pick in Thursday’s draft.

Will the Spurs trade Parker this offseason?

The Spurs have talked to teams in the lottery, including the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, who hold the fifth and seventh picks, respectively.
The Kings are determined to get a frontline point guard, and have also talked with the Denver Nuggets about Raymond Felton.

It’s unclear who the Spurs would prefer to take if they acquired a high lottery pick.

If the Spurs were to trade Parker, George Hill could become their starting point guard.

League sources said Hill also has drawn trade interest from teams willing to give the Spurs a pick near the back-end of the lottery.

Parker didn’t play well early in the Spurs’ first-round loss to the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies in May then later told French reporters he thought the franchise’s days of contending for a title had all but ended, but later retracted his comments.

In all fairness, Parker remains one of the better point guards in the NBA, but he is also the team’s most valuable trade chip. If the Spurs are trying to improve via trade, then Parker could seriously be in the trading block.

Back in May, I wrote some trade scenarios that involves Parker.  While some of it looks like a pipe dream or one-sided, it might be worth your time.

If the Spurs will trade Parker, who would you like to get in return? Or are the Spurs better with Parker in the lineup? Share your thoughts.

  1. Trade Parker? you’ve got to be kidding me! I won’t give up on TP that easily. Trade Jefferson and Hill first before giving up on Parker.

  2. Trading Parker makes the most sense of any move we could make. As much as I’d love to trade RJ, nobody wants him. Hell I’d give him away if I could but nobody’s biting. He’s old, playing an over-saturated position (the best players in the league are 3s), and the only thing he’s proven is that he’s not the Nets’ RJ anymore (maybe it’s a sign he should go back to Jersey. RJ for Deron Williams seems like a fair enough trade).

I’ve been looking to trade Parker for two season already. As much as it pains me to say it, we can’t win big with our current lineup. With Dice planning his big ol’ fishing trip in the sky and Duncan getting closer to the end what we need is big bodies. We resigned RJ last season giving the Spurs no money to sign free agents, and trading Parker would give us some bang for our buck. He’s basically the only name we could trade at this point. Gino makes the team, Duncan will die in San Antonio and be put under a glass case at the AT&T Center someday, (foreshadowing) George Hill + Tiago = our future, DeJuan is too undersized/has bad knees, and Bonner needs to keep a look out for the ultimate sandwich. Parker is still young and we could definitely get some decent players in exchange.

    • I agree on what you said about Parker. Who do you think we should get in return? I let this idea, Parker for Varejao, Gibson and Harris.

We get a bigman, a backup PG and a young wingman for Parker.
