Brazil blast Latvia in Day 4 of the FIBA U19


After winning their first two games in the FIBA U19 World Championship, Latvia advanced to the next round joining Australia, Russia, Brazil, Poland and Argentina in Group E.

Bertans has to play better to help Latvia stay in hunt in the FIBA U19 World Championship.

Since their first two victories however, the Latvians followed it up with two straight defeats.

Falling in the hands of team Argentina 62-69 in Day 3 where Davis Bertans had a horrendous night scoring just six points on 3-of-19 field goal shooting including o-of-11 from the 3-point area but did managed to grab eight rebounds.

Returning to Riga to start the next round, fans expected a good showing from team Latvia. But Brazil turned out a complete effort beating Latvia 88-73 as five Brazilians scored in double figures led by Raul Neto’s 19 points.

Latvia got 22 points from Edmunds Dukulis while Bertans added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists in a losing effort.

Bertans shot better this time, going 6-of-14 from the field but only went 1-of-5 from beyond the arc.

With a 2-2 record, Latvia is currently tied with Russia and Argentina in Group E. They are behind Brazil, Australia and Poland, teams that are sporting identical 3-1 record.

Latvia will play Poland in Day 5 of the FIBA U19 tournament.

  1. This Bertans kid will only get better as he plays tougher competition I hope they’d win against Poland.

  2. He is inconsistent but Latvia is relying heavily on him and Dukulis. If you noticed every time he plays good they get the win.

    This loss against Brazil is an exception, the team is too tough for Latvia.

  3. I know Latvia is not really a strong team. I believe they are ranked 34 in FIBA. It would be sweet if they can make it to the final four. That will give Davis Bertans plenty of confidence.
