Parker, Batum have high hopes for Team France

With less than a month to prepare for the EuroBasket qualifiers, San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker and his French teammates have high hopes for the French national team.

Team France talked to France-Amerique, and here’s what they have to say.

“Our team is respected, many of us are experienced NBA players, but do not forget that we haven’t won a title for almost 10 years,” said  Parker.

“The aim is clear: We must go all the way to finally give a title to French basketball,” said Portland Trailblazers’ wingman, Nicolas Batum.

Team France purpose of this competition is twofold.

  • The main priority is to get a seat for the Olympic tournament next year in London.
  • And then the team, must go beyond the qualification round to possibly compete for the Olympic title.

“Playing in the Olympics is a childhood dream,” said Parker.

Joining Parker in the French national team are Batum, Spurs draftee Nando De Colo, Boris Diaw, Ronny Turiaf, Rodrigue Beaubois, former Spur Ian Mahimni and Kevin Seraphin.

Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah, who has yet to workout with Team France because of an injury, is also expected to join the squad.

This team is loaded with NBA-talent and should be considered as one of the favorites at 2011 EuroBasket championships.

  1. It looks like Team France have a lot of faith in each other, I hope they do qualify for the London Olympics.

  2. I hope Tony and his teammates aren’t looking too far ahead. Get to the Olympics first before aiming for the title.

  3. With this kind of team, I think France will qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. It will be a total disappointment and failure on their part if they can’t.
