Lorbek’s double-double not enough to beat Spain

As part of their preparations for the upcoming 2011 EuroBasket, the Slovenian national team played powerhouse Spain in two friendly games.

Erazem Lorbek and Slovenia loss two straight warm-up games against Pau Gasol and Spain.

In their first encounter in Malaga last Saturday, Spain prevailed over Slovenia 73-61.

This time the teams played in Granada but the outcome remained the same.

Spain claimed a comfortable win, with Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol leading the charge.

The game was pretty close in the first half, Slovenia only trailed 15-18 after the first quarter and were within 10-points at halftime 28-38.

Spain opened the second half on a 12-5 run to boost their margin, but Slovenia wouldn’t give up easily. The Slovenians went on a comeback rally late in the third quarter cutting the deficit to just five points heading into the fourth quarter 50-55.

However, Spain took over in the final quarter outscoring the Slovenian national team 24-7 and preserving a 79-57 victory.

Pau Gasol led the Spaniards with 19 points, and Oklahoma City Thunders’ Serge Ibaka added 12 points and nine rebounds.

San Antonio Spurs’ Erazem Lorbek had a double-double for Slovenia with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Jaka Lakovic and Goran Dragic scored nine points apiece in the loss.
