As the 2011 EuroBasket and FIBA Americas Championship kicks off, no NBA team will be well represented more than the San Antonio Spurs.
Among the notable Spurs players that will represent their home countries at the Olympic qualifiers are Manu Ginobili of Argentina, Tony Parker of France and Tiago Splitter of Brazil.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Spurs draftee, Nando De Colo is joining Parker in Team France and former Spur Fabricio Oberto is also playing with Ginobili at the Argentine squad.
Spurs rookie Cory Joseph will play for Canada, and Spurs 2011 draftees Erazem Lorbek and Davis Bertans will represent Slovenia and Latvia respectively.
Later today at the FIBA Americas Championships in Argentina, Splitter and Brazil will start their bid to gain an outright Olympic berth as they take on Venezuela at 14:00 (GMT -3) in Mar del Plata.
Manu Ginobili and Team Argentina will go up against Paraguay at 18:00 (GMT -3) in Mar del Plata.
Tomorrow, at the 2011 Eurobasket in Lithuania, Tony Parker lead France against Bertans and Latvia at 17:45 (GMT +3) in Siauliai while Erazem Lorbek and Slovenia faces Bulgaria at 18:00 (GMT +3) in Klaipeda.
I hope Brazil, Argentina and Slovenia wins their first games. With all due respect France’s first game against Latvia is a gimme.
